Google Buys Lift Labs

LiftLabs

Google has acquired Lift Labs, a company that makes a spoon designed to make eating easier for people with neurodegenerative tremors. Lift Labs will be joining Google[x], the Search giant’s division that works with experimental projects, and be part of Google Life Sciences. Financial details of the transaction were not shared. Liftware Labs says it will continue to sell its Liftware stabilizer spoons.

Neurodegenerative tremors, especially Parkinson’s disease, is something Google co-founder Sergey Brin has experienced very closely. Mr. Brin’s mother Eugenia has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He himself used the services of 23andMe and discovered that although Parkinson’s is generally not hereditary, both he and his mother possess a mutation of the LRRK2 gene (G2019S) that puts the likelihood of him developing Parkinson’s in later years.
