- Determine sprint goal: The team collaborates to define a sprint goal, which is a high-level objective that will guide the team’s efforts throughout the sprint.
- Select backlog items for the sprint: The development team, guided by the product owner and the sprint goal, selects the items from the product backlog that they believe can be completed within the sprint’s time frame.
- Estimate effort: The development team estimates the effort required to complete each backlog item, often using story points or other estimation techniques. This helps the team gauge the amount of work they can realistically commit to during the sprint.
- Create the sprint backlog: The selected items and their corresponding estimates are added to the sprint backlog, which serves as the team’s plan for the sprint.
