Instagram Comes To Android Phones

[By Sudarshana Banerjee]

Instagram is now available on Android (Yay!). Here is the link to the Instagram app on Google Play. Instagram for Android can be run on any camera phone with Android 2.2 or above with support for OpenGL ES 2 (a graphics processing language Instagram uses, and which your phone should support), but hold your tablets for the time being, Instagram will not work with tablets for now.

There are a few features that will not be included in the first version of the Android app (Tilt Shift/Blur, Share from Feed, Live Preview and Share to Flickr), but the upcoming versions will take care of that, says Instagram. You’ll find all the same exact filters and community as the iOS version.

Instagram for Android is available for download in every country and is translated into English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Instagram will output a maximum resolution of 2048×2048, depending on your phone’s camera and available application memory.
Instagram was launched in October 2010 by co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. Instagram lets users snap a photo, then choose a filter to transform the look and feel. Pictures are shared on Instagram, and can be uploaded to other social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr.
The app has 30 million registered users on iOS, a billion photos uploaded, and over 430,000 people who are on the waiting list for the Android version. Others stats include on an average 81 comments and 575 likes per second.
Go play!
