Ajei Gopal Joins Silver Lake As Operating Partner

Ajei Gopal has joined Silver Lake as an operating partner based in New York. Mr. Gopal joined the firm’s Value Creation Team and will work broadly across the firm’s portfolio companies to drive operational improvements.

Most recently, Mr. Gopal served as senior vice president and general manager in the IT Management Business Unit of HP Software. Before joining HP Software in 2011, Mr. Gopal was executive vice president of the Technology and Development Group at CA Technologies. Prior to that, he served as CTO and executive vice president at Symantec.

Mr. Gopal also co-founded and served as CEO of ReefEdge Networks, a wireless LAN systems company. Prior to that, he spent nine years at IBM in a variety of technology roles, including CTO for its Pervasive Computing Division. Mr. Gopal began his career as a member of the technical staff of Bell Communications Research’s Applied Research Division. 

Mr. Gopal is currently on the board of directors and a member of the audit and strategy committees for ANSYS. He also served as a member of the Cloud Computing Steering Committee at the World Economic Forum between 2009 and 2011.

Mr. Gopal has been awarded twenty-three U.S. patents over the course of his career and is the author of numerous publications. Mr. Gopal holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay and a doctorate degree in computer science from Cornell University.
