Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella told employees in a public email last Thursday, that Terry Myerson, head of the Windows and Devices Group and a 21-year Microsoft veteran, is leaving the company. Mr. Nadella also announced the formation of two new engineering groups within Microsoft.

Experiences & Devices

Executive vice president, of the Office Product Group within Microsoft, Rajesh Jha will expand his existing responsibilities, and lead a new group focused on Experiences & Devices, said Mr. Nadella. Panos Panay, corporate vice president, Microsoft Devices, will serve as chief product officer Devices, and be part of this group. Joe Belfiore will continue to lead Windows, Kudo Tsunoda will continue to lead the New Experiences and Technology team, and Brad Anderson will continue to lead the Enterprise Mobility and Management team within this group.

Cloud + AI Platform

Scott Guthrie will expand his existing responsibilities to lead a new group focused on Cloud + AI Platform. Within Azure,  Jason Zander is being promoted to executive vice president, Azure. The Windows platform team led by Harv Bhela, Henry Sanders, and Michael Fortin will join Mr. Zander’s team; along with Roanne Sones, who leads technical engagement with OEMs, ODMs and silicon vendors, and her team.

The Customer Service, Marketing and Sales Insights teams for Business AI, previously led by Gurdeep Singh Pall, will join James Phillips’ Business Applications Group. Eric Lockard and his team from the Universal Store and Commerce Platform will also join the Cloud + AI Platform team. Alex Kipman will lead a new AI Perception & Mixed Reality team. Eric Boyd will lead the new AI Cognitive Services & Platform.

Harry Shum will continue to lead Microsoft’s third engineering group, AI + Research, which was established two years ago.
