Symantec forms venture capital arm for cyber security investments

Symantec has formed a venture capital arm called Symantec Ventures, to invest in cyber security startups. In addition to contributing capital, the company says it aims to help the startup community reduce expenses and accelerate time to market with the new initiative.

Symantec says it will provide entrepreneurs with access to technology assets, including the company’s Integrated Cyber Defense Platform for enterprises and the Digital Safety Platform for consumers; as well as expertise in artificial intelligence, go-to-market resources and the use of its civilian threat intelligence network.

Symantec has over 385,000 enterprise customers according to the company. Startups building on Symantec’s platform, will of course be among the top contenders for funding.

Symantec Ventures is based upon the company’s previous investment in mobile investment firm Appthority.
