Steve Jobs Gets A Grammy

By Sudarshana Banerjee

The Recording Academy has announced its Special Merit Awards recipients. Steve Jobs is among the Trustees Award Grammy honorees. The Grammy will be awarded to him posthumously during the awards ceremony held during Grammy Week on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, and a formal acknowledgment will be made during the 54th Annual Grammy Awards telecast  (Staples Center, Los Angeles, Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012).

This is not the first Grammy for Apple. In 2002, Apple was a recipient of a Technical Grammy Award for contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording field.

Dave Bartholomew, and Rudy Van Gelder are the other Trustees Award Grammy honorees. The Trustees Award recognizes such contributions in areas other than performance, and are determined by vote of The Recording Academy’s National Board of Trustees.

“This year’s honorees offer a variety of brilliance, contributions and lasting impressions on our culture,” said president and CEO of The Recording Academy, Neil Portnow. “It is an honor to recognize such a diverse group of individuals whose talents and achievements have had an indelible impact on our industry.”

Established in 1957, The Recording Academy is an organization of musicians, producers, engineers and recording professionals, internationally known for the Grammy Awards.
