New LifeProof Phone Cases Work Under Water Without Screen Cover

LIfeProof_nuudLifeProof has launched a waterproof smartphone case for Apple iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S 3 that works without a screen cover.

Called nüüd, lets users touch the actual screen while their smartphones stay protected from water, drops, sweat, or dirt.

The Apple iPhone 5 case, the first nüüd smartphone case offered, will be sold at Best Buy and on the LifeProof web site beginning on July 7, 2013 for $89.99. The nüüd case for the Samsung Galaxy SIII will soon follow.

LifeProof uses a compression lock system that forms a waterproof seal between the case and the device touchscreen, making the nüüd cases screen-free, yet  waterproof, with an IP68 rating for submerging 6.6 ft./2m underwater for one hour. The new case is also built to survive a 6.6 ft./2m. drop and exceeds military specifications for shock, drop and vibration protection.
