NASA Partially Shut Down, Happy 55th Birthday Indeed

NASA_shutdown_55Tuesday marks the 55th anniversary of NASA, but the space agency is among the federal agencies affected by the government shutdown, and is only partially operational.

NASA Mission Control will continue supporting astronauts serving on the Space Station, but only 367 of its 18,250 employees will show up at work on Tuesday. All tours to and public access to NASA facilities have been shut down. NASA Television, its website, and its social media activities have also gone dark.

NASA officials did manage to send out a hurried birthday message, but the link to the message is not functional, because the NASA website is down.

You can find a list of agencies affected by the shutdown, and its possible impact here.
