Microsoft Rolls Out Windows 10 Build 9860

Windows10

Microsoft is rolling out a new build, Build 9860, for Windows 10. If you have signed up for the Windows Insider Program, the new build will be downloaded as an automatic update. You can also get the update by going to PC Settings, Update and recovery, Preview builds, and clicking the Check Now button. The download will range between 2GB and 2.74GB depending on CPU architecture and language.

Most of the changes in the build are behind-the-scenes, but there are nearly 7,000 improvements and fixes to the product between 9841 and 9860, says Microsoft. For example, “Action Center” is now coming from Windows Phone over to the PC, as the place where users can see and follow up on all actionable items. This build is focused just on enabling basic notifications though, quick actions and cleaner UI will follow later. When working on multiple monitors, users can move active apps from one monitor to another. There is also a new animation that alerts users when they are switching desktops.

Be warned, the new build comes with a few rough edges. It’s harder to join a Wi-Fi network with the new build, something Microsoft is working on. In some places the UI design has gone ‘backwards’ temporarily. Sometimes Internet Explorer glyphs may garbled and items on the Start menu might disappear. With the new build installed, computers may also have difficulty going to sleep, among other things.
