Lockheed Martin partners with IBM to enhance AI tools for defense applications

Lockheed Martin is integrating IBM’s Granite large language models (LLMs) into its AI Factory, a platform used by over 10,000 of its developers and engineers to design and deploy AI systems for defense and aerospace.

The addition of IBM’s Granite LLMs aims to improve the platform’s ability to process language, support reasoning, and develop custom AI assistants. These tools are expected to help streamline decision-making and enhance the deployment of AI in critical defense operations, according to the companies.

Both companies have stated that the integration will adhere to the U.S. Department of Defense’s AI ethics principles, which include ensuring AI systems are responsible, reliable, and governable.

Lockheed Martin has also implemented internal AI ethics training to ensure employees use the technology responsibly.
