Federated learning

Federated learning is a machine learning approach that allows for the development of models across numerous decentralized devices or servers. These devices each hold local data samples and are networked together, enabling them to collaboratively learn from the data without actually exchanging it.

Instead of sending raw data to a centralized location (as in traditional machine learning models), each device in federated learning trains a local model on its own data, and then sends the model’s parameters or updates to a central server. This server aggregates these multi-source updates to form a global model, which is then sent back to each device for further local training.This process cycles through several iterations, progressively improving the global model.

The federated learning approach has significant implications for data privacy and security because sensitive data never leaves its original device, only aggregated learnings do.
