Fairchild Semiconductor Begins Production In Korea

Fairchild Semiconductor has opened an eight-inch wafer fabrication line in Bucheon, Korea.  Since Fairchild purchaseed the Bucheon site in 1999, the company has invested nearly $800 million in its Korean facilities.

Ben Kang (Managing director, Fairchild Korea): This eight-inch Fab is a critical step in the evolution of Fairchild’s supply chain. becoming the best-in-class in power semiconductors.

Key technologies outlined for production at the fab include high-voltage discrete products. Production at the site has begun, and a formal inauguration is slated for Wednesday.

IBM has announced an agreement with RIKEN, a Japanese national research laboratory, to deploy IBM's quantum computer architecture and quantum processor at the RIKEN Center for Computational Science in Kobe, Japan.
