Facebook Messenger crosses 1 billion users

More than a billion people now use Facebook Messenger every month, says the Menlo Park-based social networking site. Facebook debuted Messenger as a stand-alone app two years ago. 

Currently, Facebook has averages 989 million mobile daily active users (as of March 2016). The site is used by 1.09 billion active users daily, approximately 84.2% of who are outside the US and Canada.
