Facebook Buys Some 750 Patents From IBM

[Techtaffy Newsdesk]

Facebook has acquired 750 patents from IBM, reports Brian Womack of Bloomberg. The patents cover various technologies such as software and networking, says the report, and adds that the acquisition would increase the size of Facebook’s patents portfolio, which includes at least 56 issued patents and 503 filed U.S. patent applications.

The deal comes in the wake of Yahoo suing the social networking giant over patient infringement.

Facebook reportedly had 22 patent suits against it last year, and according to its IPO filings, expects many more such suits in the future.
