Everything You Want To Know About El Capitan – The New Mac OS X

Mac OS X El Capitan

Apple unveiled OS X El Capitan, OS X 11 at the company’s annual worldwide developer conference (WWDC 2015) currently ongoing at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.  El Capitan introduces enhancements to window management, built-in apps, and Spotlight search says Apple.

What is new with the OS X El Capitan?
  1. There is a new system font, San Francisco.
  2. Mission Control has a cleaner design.
  3. A Split View feature automatically positions two app windows side-by-side in full screen, and lets users work with both apps.
  4. Safari features Pinned Sites to keep an user’s websites open and active in the tab bar. The browser also gets a ‘mute button’ to silence browser audio from any tab.
  5. Mail introduces Smart Suggestions, which recognizes names or events in a mail message and prompts users to add them to contacts or calendar. Users can swipe to delete messages, just like in iOS, and juggle multiple emails while Mail is in full screen.
  6. Users can add locations to a single image or an entire Moment, and sort albums by date or title, using Photos. Users will also be able to download third-party editing extensions, and access them directly within the Photos app.
  7. The Notes app in El Capitan lets users drag and drop photos, PDFs, videos and other files into notes, and add content directly from other apps. An attachments browser organizes attachments in one view.
  8. Spotlight generates results for more topics, including weather, stocks, sports, transit and web video. Users can resize the Spotlight window to display more results or move it anywhere on the desktop, as well as use natural language to find documents and files on the Mac.
  9. Metal, Apple’s graphics technology, accelerates core animation and core graphics to boost system-level rendering by up to 50 percent, and efficiency by up to 40 percent, says Apple. Metal also delivers up to 10 times faster draw call performance, according to the company.
  10. El Capitan features enhanced international language support, including a new Chinese system font for both traditional and simplified. Japanese typefaces also get a boost.
