Daily stand-up

A daily stand-up, also known as a daily scrum or daily huddle, is a brief, daily meeting held by Agile project teams, particularly those following the Scrum framework. The main purpose of the daily stand-up is to share updates on the team’s progress, synchronize efforts, discuss any obstacles or issues, and maintain a clear line of communication among team members.

The daily stand-up is typically conducted at the same time and place each day, with team members standing up to encourage a quick and focused meeting. The meeting usually lasts no longer than 15 minutes, during which each team member answers three key questions:

  1. What did I accomplish yesterday?
  2. What will I work on today?
  3. Are there any impediments or blockers that are preventing me from completing my tasks?

The daily stand-up is not intended for problem-solving or in-depth discussions. If such topics arise, they should be addressed in separate meetings or conversations after the stand-up.

The Scrum Master is responsible for facilitating the daily stand-up and ensuring that it runs smoothly and efficiently.

By holding daily stand-ups, Agile teams can foster transparency, maintain a clear understanding of the project’s status, and quickly identify and resolve any issues that could impede progress.
