Australia Formulates National Cloud Computing Strategy

Australia_Cloud_Sydney

Australia has formulated a national cloud computing strategy. The strategy has identified three core goals – 1) Maximizing the value of cloud computing in government, 2) Promoting cloud computing to small businesses, not-for-profits and consumers, and 3) Supporting a vibrant cloud services sector.

The strategy comes after a deliberation of several months – the government had announced in October last year that they would develop a cloud computing strategy for the nation.

As a nation, Australia is well placed to take advantage of cloud computing for a range of reasons – including a stable socio-economic system, a strong rule of law and a highly diverse and skilled Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector, says the strategy document.

At the individual level there are many organizations across the economy that have implemented innovative cloud computing services that have transformed the way they operate. However, as a group, Australian small business and not-for-profit organizations lag behind their counterparts in Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries in the use of online technology, according to the strategy document.

You can take a look at the strategy document at the Australian government Department of Broadband, Communications, and the Digital Economy website here.
