PrimeSenseApple has acquired Israel-based 3D sensor company PrimeSense for a reported $360 million.

PrimeSense technology was used to power Microsoft Kinnect (the Redmond giant now uses homegrown technology for that). The iRobot remote virtual presence and telemedicine assistant Ava also uses PrimeSense technology, as does Qualcomm for their SmartTerrain 3D augmented reality capabilities.

PrimeSense also sells short range and 3D sensors, and an embedded reference design that can be used in consumer electronics devices.
