AMD acquires gaming technology company HiAlgo; says laying groundwork for innovation in Radeon software

AMD has acquired Sunnyvale, California-based HiAlgo, a company developing PC gaming technologies. The acquisition lays the groundwork for future gaming innovation in Radeon software, that will benefit owners of the Radeon RX Series GPUs, said the company in a statement.

HiAlgo was founded by Eugene Fainstain, an image scientist who helped build Samsung’s image sensor, used in over half a billion cell phones. HiAlgo has a gaming acceleration engine – HiAlgo Boost – that works by intercepting and on-the-fly modifying commands, sent from a game to the graphics card, optimizing performance frame by frame. The company also offered Switch, which let users double the frame rate for games, and Chill, a smart frame rate limiter.

“Software is an integral part of advancing the science of graphics, enabling us to best harness the silicon of the GPU to maximize performance and deliver outstanding experiences in games and applications,” said Raja Koduri, senior vice president and chief architect, Radeon Technologies Group, AMD. “HiAlgo embodies our spirit of passion, persistence and play by delivering a number of creative approaches to software that improve gamers’ experiences, and helps future-proof the GPU.”
