Spaces raises $6.5M

Mixed reality company Spaces has raised $6.5 million in funding. The investment was led by China-based Songcheng Performances Development Co. , with additional investment from Comcast Ventures and other venture capitalists.

Former DreamWorks Animation CFO Fazal Merchant, Comcast Ventures’ managing director Michael Yang, and Ethan Wang, general manager of Songcheng Technology, are joining the Spaces board.

Previously, Songcheng and Spaces formed a $30 million joint venture that will bring Spaces virtual-reality technology to the theme parks run by Songcheng. Spaces is also working with Songcheng to bring its live-streaming video site to virtual reality and mixed reality platforms.
