Visa is working with Facebook on a new payments feature on WhatsApp in Brazil, the financial institution said in a statement.
With the new feature, WhatsApp users in Brazil can send and receive money, as also make purchases from within the WhatsApp app.
Capabilities included in the payments ecosystem include Visa Direct, Visa’s push payments technology, and Cloud Tokenization, a security capability Visa recently launched for payments in WhatsApp. Brazilian consumers are the first in the world to use the Cloud Token technology, says Visa.
Brazilian WhatsApp users will start seeing the payment option on the app, where they can set up an account by adding their Visa card. For small businesses to be able to receive payments from customers, they need to create a WhatsApp Business app account first.
