Samsung Starts Mass Producing Ultra Speedy MicroSD Cards

[Techtaffy Newsdesk]

Samsung Electronics is now mass producing its Ultra High Speed–1 (UHS-1) interface microSD cards, says the company. The 16GB UHS-1 microSD card has a maximum sequential read speed of 80 megabytes per second (MB/s), more than four times the read speed of currently available advanced microSD cards, which operate at 21MB/s, according to internal tests.

The UHS-1 memory card comes in a 16 gigabyte (GB) density. It is comprised of Samsung’s 20 nanometer-class 64 gigabit (Gb) toggle DDR 2.0 devices and an advanced Samsung controller supporting the interface.

Initial production of the 16GB UHS-1 microSD cards began late last month.

Samsung did not say when the cards will be available or what the price will be.
