Jack Dorsey resigns; CTO Parag Agrawal is new Twitter chief executive

Twitter co-founder and chief executive Jack Dorsey has stepped down; with the CEO baton now going to Twitter chief technology officer Parag Agrawal. In another development, Bret Taylor, president and COO of Salesforce, was named the new chairman of the company’s board. 

Mr. Agrawal has served as Twitter CTO since 2017. He joined Twitter in 2011. Prior to that, he had risen to be the company’s first Distinguished Engineer due to his work across revenue and consumer engineering, according to Twitter.

Dr. Agarawal holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford Universityand a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.

“I’ve decided to leave Twitter because I believe the company is ready to move on from its founders. My trust in Parag as Twitter’s CEO is deep. His work over the past 10 years has been transformational. I’m deeply grateful for his skill, heart, and soul. It’s his time to lead,” Mr. Dorsey said in a statement.

In a statement, Mr. Agrawal said, “I look forward to building on everything we have accomplished under Jack’s leadership and I am incredibly energized by the opportunities ahead. By continuing to improve our execution, we will deliver tremendous value for our customers and shareholders as we reshape the future of public conversation.”
