Open source cloud-based development platform Gitpod has raised a $25 million Series A funding round.

Tom Preston-Werner, founder and former CEO at GitHub, led the investment. Existing investors General Catalyst, Crane Venture Partners, Vertex Ventures, and Speedinvest also participated in the funding, along with Pebblebed, GTMfund, MongoDB Ventures, Tobi Lütke (founder and CEO, Shopify) and Olivier Pomel (founder and CEO, Datadog) and Kent Beck.

Preston-Werner and Juliet Bailin from General Catalyst will join Gitpod’s board of directors.

In another development, Johannes Landgraf, co-founder of Gitpod is joining the company’s board, and is now the company’s single chief executive. Co-founder Sven Efftinge returns to an individual contributor role as Gitpod’s first Technical Fellow.
