Facebook Acquires Voice Technology Company

Facebook has acquired Mobile Technologies, a company founded in 2001, that is in the speech recognition space. Mobile Technologies has developed a number of cross-lingual communication tools, including Jibbigo, a speech-to-speech translator for phones, that can also work offline.

Tom Stocky (Director, Product Management, Facebook): Voice technology has become an increasingly important way for people to navigate mobile devices and the web, and this technology will help us evolve our products to match that evolution. We believe this acquisition is an investment in our long-term product roadmap.

The Mobile Technologies will be joining Facebook at their headquarters in Menlo Park, California, says Tom Stocky, director, Product Management, with Facebook.
