Rovio Has A New CEO

Mikael Hed will be succeeded by Pekka Rantala, as CEO of Rovio, the Finland-based company behind the popular Angry Birds games. Previously, Mr. Rantala was CEO of Finnish beverage-maker Hartwell. He also had a 14-year stint with Nokia. Mr. Hed will continue to have a position in the Rovio board. Additionally, he has been appointed as chairman of Rovio Animation Studios. The CEO transition will happen by January 1, 2015.

Angry Birds Star Wars II Launches

Rovio has released Angry Birds Star Wars II. The game is available for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone 8 devices worldwide. Angry Birds Star Wars II is the sequel to the Angry Birds Star Wars game, and for the first time, lets players choose sides, where they can play as the bird or the pigs. There are also 30 telepods made available by toy-maker Hasbro, in collaboration with Rovio. These telepods are Angry Birds toys that can be 'teleported' into the online game as actual characters.        

‘Rise And Swine’ With New Bad Piggies Levels

The Bad Piggies game from Rovio, makers of the Angry Birds franchise, just got a big update with 30 brand new 'Rise & Swine' levels! Rovio has added super glue, magnets and turbo charges as part of new power-ups – which you can either purchase or earn (by collecting desserts and feeding them to the King Pig). The update also introduces a grappling hook, which users can fire onto any surface to swing in the right direction. You will also find the Super Mechanic – the guy you call in when you need a 3-star ride! He builds the perfect machine every time, and he’s yours to earn or purchase, as well.

Angry Birds Coming To Consoles Now

May the flock be with you! Activision Blizzard, in conjunction with Rovio and Lucasfilm, is bringing Angry Birds to consoles. The Angry Birds Star Wars game is expected to release on console gaming systems on October this year. The game will come with new levels, features, and platform-unique design elements, like multi-player modes. The Angry Birds Star Wars game will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Wii and Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS hand-held systems.  

Angry Birds Star Wars II Coming This September

Angry Birds Cartoons To Debut Soon Across Apps

The first episode of Angry Birds Toons will debut on March 17 across all Angry Birds apps, with a brand new cartoon airing the same time every weekend. Rovio is launching a video distribution channel across all of its Angry Birds game titles on smartphones and tablets. Rovio, DreamWorks Releasing ‘The Croods’ Game

Rovio is moving beyond angry birds and errant pigs. The company is launching a new mobile game  for iOS and Android, as well as a short animated clip, along with DreamWorks Animation, leading up to the 3D release of the studio's animated feature film The Croods. The Croods game will debut globally on iOS and Android on March 14th, and is free to play.

BlackBerry Launches BlackBerry 10, Two New Phones

More Than A Billion Angry Birds, Says Rovio

How many Angry Birds did we get? About 30 million during Christmas alone, says Rovio; more than one billion in all. The Angry Birds franchise has more than a quarter billion monthly active users, as of December. 

8M Angry Birds Flock During Christmas

Rovio had 30 million downloads of their Angry Birds games during Christmas week (December 22-29) and, on Christmas Day, over 8 million downloads in 24 hours alone, says the company. 2012 has been an interesting year for Angry Birds, Rovio released four mobile games, developed two Facebook games, and reached more than a billion downloads. Iron Man, Despicable Me Producers Making Angry Birds Movie

What better way to celebrate the third anniversary of the release of Angry Birds, by unleashing flying pigs, angry birds and stolen pigs on the big screen? Rovio has signed Despicable Me producer John Cohen to do the honors as producer of an Angry Birds movie. David Maisel, former chairman of Marvel Studios and executive producer of Iron Man, will be executive producer of the feature film, coming to theaters in summer 2016. The film will be produced and financed by Rovio, outside the studio system, and the company will retain creative control. The upcoming movie marks Rovio Entertainment’s first foray into feature films.
