WordPress Gets New Look, Colors With 3.8 “Parker” Update

wordpress_3.8_parkerWordPress has gotten a facelift with WordPress 3.8 “Parker”. The new release is named after jazz saxophonist and composer Charlie Parker, and was led by Matt Mullenweg. This is WordPress’ second release using the newer plugin-first development process.

Some of the changes with WordPress 3.8:

  1. WordPress 3.8 moves away from the ‘gray’ color scheme, and gives users new colors, with eight color palettes to chose from.
  2. The dashboard has gotten a redesign, and is much more tighter and uncluttered now.
  3. WordPress has also changed its fonts, using the open source Open Sans typeface, and is optimized for both desktop and mobile viewing.
  4. The icons are now vector-based that scale to screen. This makes pages load faster.
  5. The new themes screen lets users survey their themes at a glance.
  6. The widgets screen has been streamlined.
  7. The default theme Twenty Fourteen lets users choose a grid or a slider to display featured content on the homepage. It comes with three widget areas and two page templates.
