We Spent $35.3 Billion Online On Holiday Shopping!

[Techtaffy Newsdesk]

We have spent $35.3 billion online (so far) on holiday shopping. Last week (ending Dec. 25) alone, we bought $2.8 billion of stuff online. $1.25 billion spent on Cyber Monday ranked as the heaviest online spending day of the season for the second consecutive year.

According to a comScore study, digital content and subscriptions accounted for 2.8 per cent of retail e-commerce sales for this holiday season. On Christmas Day, the category accounted for more than 20 per cent of sales. Over the past several years, there have been a dramatic increase in Christmas Day purchases of digital content and subscriptions, a retail category that includes digital downloads of music, TV, movies, e-books and apps. This is because many of us get new smartphones, tablets, e-readers, and gift certificates for Christmas, and we spend a large part of the day loading up our devices with new content.

The 2011 holiday season began November 1. So far, we have spent 15 per cent more than last year.
