Dr. Stephen Herrod, Chief Technology Officer and senior vice president of Research and Development of VMWare, is joining General Catalyst as a partner. He will be based in Palo Alto.
With General Catalyst, Dr. Herrod’s primary focus will be investing in, and supporting entrepreneurs at early-stage companies. He will also maintain a presence at VMware as a strategic advisor while continuing in his role as an advisor to EMC.
Prior to VMware, Dr. Herrod co-led the development of a virtual CPU with “Code Morphing” technology at Transmeta, and also held roles at Silicon Graphics and MIPS Technologies.
Dr. Herrod holds a Ph.D. and M.S. from Stanford University and a BA from the University of Texas at Austin. He is passionate about the use of technology to advance primary education and serves on the board of Peninsula School, a PK-8 school in Menlo Park, Calif.
