Twitter Introduces The New Twitter

By Joan Bennett

Twitter has introduced a new, redesigned version of Twitter. “What we’re announcing today is just the beginning. We now have a framework in place that we will quickly build and iterate upon to help users connect with whatever is meaningful to them,”  says the Twitter blog post announcing the changes.

What is changing?

A Home page: Home is where you will see Tweets from the people you have chosen to follow. You can also access your favorite features from the lefthand side now. Everything in Home will appear consistently across computers, iPhones, and Android mobile phones.  Brands can have a home page of their own as well.

Photos, videos and conversations: Get embedded directly in Tweets, so you can see them without changing windows.

Four new tabs: You now have five tabs in all  – Home, Connect, Discover, Me and Tweet.

Connect – The new Connect section is where you get to see who has followed or mentioned you, retweeted of favorited your tweets. Discover – When you use Discover, you’ll see results reflecting your interests—based on your current location, what you follow and what’s happening in the world. As you use Twitter more, Discover gets even better at serving up more content just for you. Me – The new profile section puts you and your interests front and center. Others can Tweet directly to you and view your lists, favorites, followers, photos and more. The Me tab is also where you can stay current on your direct message conversations. There is also a new Tweet button.

The redesigned Twitter will be rolled out over the next few weeks. You can see it immediately on the just-updated versions of mobile.twitter.com, Twitter for iPhone, and Twitter for Android. You can also get early access on your computer by downloading and logging into Twitter for iPhone or Twitter for Android. Twitter says its working on updates for other apps, such as Twitter for iPad, and will share news as they become available.
