Twitter has bought Whisper Systems, a company that provides security and management solutions for phones and tablet devices, for an undisclosed amount.

Whisper Systems consists of all of two employees, Moxie Marlinspike and Stuart Anderson, and their offerings are in Beta testing. The service has reached a celeb fan following nonetheless, and was used extensively during the Egypt protests. What the software does is scrambles data, voice or text on phones or tablets that run Android, making the information safe.

Twitter has a security system in place (of course), and uses a group of independent security researchers who volunteer their time as well. Whisper Systems products include WhisperCore, WhisperMonitor, Flashback, RedPhone, and TextSecure.
