Twilio Launches Android SDK For Developers

[Techtaffy Newsdesk]

Cloud communications company Twilio has launched a Twilio Client for Android. The product, which is a software development kit (SDK), makes it possible for mobile developers to integrate voice over IP (VoIP) capabilities into their Android applications, essentially turning any part of an app into a fully functional VoIP phone.

In addition to the recently announced iOS SDK, the release of the Android SDK means that Twilio Client is now available for 75% of worldwide smartphones, according to recent data from Gartner.

Key features of the Twilio client for Android include:

  • Real-time Presence – Developers can build buddy lists into any app to help let users know who is online.
  • App Backgrounding – The SDK can receive voice calls even if the app is not the current one being used.
  • Cross-Platform Interoperability – Twilio Client supports Android, iOS, and web browsers. The Twilio platform also enables bridging VoIP calls with traditional phone calls.
