Symantec buys SurfEasy from Opera

Symantec has acquired SurfEasy, a Virtual Private Network (VPN) provider that delivers solutions for online privacy and security on smartphones, tablets and computers. SurfEasy, one of Opera’s four subsidiaries, will become part of Symantec’s Consumer Business Unit, which includes the Norton and LifeLock brands, said the company in a statement.

The transaction values SurfEasy to $38.5 million.

Carnegie acted as financial advisor, and Hogan Lovells acted as legal advisor to Opera.
