Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has agreed to pay $2 billion for the Los Angeles Clippers, according to a statement released by Rochelle Sterling, a co-owner of the team. The deal is now waiting approval from the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling was caught making racist comments in a private conversation last month, sparking a national uproar. He was subsequently barred from the league for life.  The NBA also said that it would try to force Donald Sterling to sell the team.

Other technology tycoon who have dabbled in sports include Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, who made a losing bid to buy the Golden State Warriors; and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, who owns the Portland Trail Blazers and the Seattle Seahawks.

The net worth of the 58-year old Ballmer stands at $21 billion according to Forbes.
