Samsung unveiled the fifth generation of the Galaxy S series, the Galaxy S5. What’s new? The Galaxy S5 is IP67 (read about IP codes here) dust and water resistant. It also offers a finger scanner, providing a biometric screen-locking feature, as well as mobile payments. A new power saving mode turns the display to black and white, shutting down all non-essential features to conserve power.

Here’s a quick look at some of the Galaxy S5 features:

Look and feel: The Galaxy S5 features a perforated pattern on the back cover. Its new contoured shape comes in black, white, blue and gold.

Camera: The Galaxy S5 features a 16 megapixel HDR camera, with what Samsung calls the world’s fastest autofocus speed of  up to 0.3 seconds. A new selective focus feature allows users to focus on a specific area of an object while simultaneously blurring out the background, for a shallow depth-of-field effect.

Fitness tracker: The Galaxy S5 provides a personal fitness tracker to help users monitor and manage their behavior, along with tools including a pedometer, diet and exercise records, and a built-in heart rate monitor.

Connectivity: The Galaxy S5 supports the fifth generation Wi-Fi 802.11ac and 2X2 MIMO, as well as a number of LTE frequency with LTE 4. The phone also features a Download Booster, a Wi-Fi technology for boosting data speed by bonding Wi-Fi and LTE simultaneously.

The Galaxy S5 will be available globally this April.
