Salesforce, Oracle Sign Nine-Year Deal

Salesforce and Oracle have signed a nine-year cloud computing partnership, that encompasses cloud applications, platform and Infrastructure.

Marc Benioff (Chairman and CEO), Salesforce: Larry and I both agree that salesforce.com and Oracle need to integrate our clouds.

Under the terms of the agreement, Salesforce will standardize on the Oracle Linux operating system, Exadata engineered systems, the Oracle Database, and Java Middleware Platform.

Oracle will integrate Salesforce with its Fusion HCM and financial cloud, and provide the technology to power Salesforce’s applications and platform. Salesforce will also implement Oracle’s Fusion HCM and financial cloud applications throughout the company.

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff and Oracle’s Larry Ellison have a history that dates back several years. Mr. Benioff was with Oracle for over a decade, before starting Salesforce, a company in which Mr. Ellison was an investor. The duo had a public falling out in 2011, when Mr. Benioff was yanked off the speaker’s list at the last minute at Oracle’s OpenWorld conference. Mr. Benioff responded by delivering his speech anyways, at a different location. This agreement not only brings together two companies, but mends somewhat broken fences between the two CEOs as well.
