Redpoint Ventures and Lowercase Capital have invested in Electric Imp. The total size of the funding is pegged at a reported $7.9 million.

Electric Imp will soon release the Imp, a WiFi enabled computer the size of an SD card, designed to allow almost any electrical product to communicate with users and services on the Web. The ‘Imps’ enable device manufacturers to connect their devices to the Internet, and lets consumers control their homes from just about anywhere using just a phone or computer. Electric Imp builds the Internet service that communicates with these devices.

Founded by former iPhone engineering manager Hugo Fiennes, former Gmail designer Kevin Fox and software architect Peter Hartley, the Electric Imp team wants to make the internet more useful to everyone and to everything. Based in Los Altos, California, the company’s mission, is to connect everything, by providing the platform to tie disparate devices together.
