Palantir partners with Ukraine for digital demining initiative

Palantir has formed a partnership with the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine to advance a digital-led approach in clearing landmines using Palantir’s AI-enabled software. The initiative aims to address the challenge of landmines in Ukraine, aiming to clear 80 percent of affected land within ten years. Ukraine is considered one of the most mine-affected countries globally, according to Palantir.

The agreement focuses on key cooperation areas, including digitizing demining operations, improving digital coordination for land release, and utilizing Palantir’s Artificial Intelligence Platform to aid decision-making in mine clearance activities.

A software solution developed by Palantir and the Ukrainian Ministry during a pilot phase last year is set to facilitate the demining process. This platform integrates various data sources to map hazards against their impact on essential infrastructure, such as roads, hospitals, and farmlands, aiming to prioritize demining efforts based on both humanitarian and economic considerations.

The technology is expected to streamline the allocation of resources and methods for demining, comparing new techniques like drones to traditional methods for effectiveness. This partnership is part of Ukraine’s broader strategy to utilize digital tools in its demining efforts, emphasizing the importance of efficient information management and process automation.
