Nvidia, Baidu ink artificial intelligence partnership

Nvidia and Baidu have inked a broad partnership on artificial intelligence technology, for cloud computing, self-driving vehicles and AI home assistants. The announcement was made by Baidu president and COO Qi Lu, during the company’s AI developer conference in Beijing.

Some of the areas the two companies will be collaborating on, include bringing next-generation Nvidia Volta GPUs to Baidu Cloud, adopting the Nvidia Drive PX platform for Baidu’s self-driving car initiative, and developing self-driving cars with Chinese automakers.

Baidu will deploy Nvidia HGX architecture with Tesla Volta V100 and Tesla P4 GPU accelerators for AI training and inference in its data centers. The companies will also work together to optimize Baidu’s open-source PaddlePaddle deep learning framework on Nvidia architecture.

Baidu DuerOS, the company’s conversational AI system, will provide voice command capabilities to Nvidia’s Shield TV in the China market. A version of the streamer, with custom software made for China, will be available later this year, says Baidu.
