Mozilla says it is embarking on a “significant restructuring” of the company. The restructuring includes laying off 250 people; roughly one-fourth of Mozilla’s staff.

“These are individuals of exceptional professional and personal caliber who have made outstanding contributions to who we are today. To each of them, I extend my heartfelt thanks and deepest regrets that we have come to this point,” Mozilla chief executive and Mozilla Foundation chairwoman Mitchell Baker said in a statement.

Economic conditions have impacted revenue, says Mozilla. As a result, its pre-COVID plan was no longer workable, according to the company.

In a blog post, Mozilla chief executive and Mozilla Foundation chairwoman Mitchell Baker says the company has identified five focus areas for the coming months. These include product, mindset, technology, community, and economics.
