Microsoft Relaxes Xbox DRM Restrictions

Xbox_One

Microsoft has relaxed DRM restrictions on Xbox One, after negative feedback from the Xbox community. The company is also doing away with the need for users to be online to play games.

An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games, says the company. After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, users can play any disc-based game, as well. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and users can take their Xbox One consoles anywhere, just like their Xbox 360 devices.

Users can also trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc-based games, as usual. There will be no limitations to using and sharing games.  Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console — there will be no regional restrictions.

However, downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold, says Microsoft. Also, playing disc-based games on Xbox One will require that the disc be in the tray, like with Xbox 360.
