Microsoft, News Corp. Tie Up To Launch Apps

[By Sudarshana Banerjee]

More from CES 2012; Microsoft  and News Corporation have formed a tie up to launch new apps for Xbox Live. The apps will feature content from News Corp.’s broadcast, news and Web properties (including Fox Broadcasting, Fox News Channel, IGN Entertainment,  and the Wall Street Journal) and integrate them using Kinect for Xbox 360.

Video content from the Fox News Channel and FOX apps will be made available to authenticated subscribers of participating cable and satellite television distributors. The News Corp. apps will be available to Xbox LiveGold members and are slated to launch this year.

Microsoft has been aggressively seeking out new content. The Redmond giant recently bought California-based video discovery company called VideoSurf, and in the coming months, Microsoft says it will bring some 40 world-leading TV and entertainment providers to Xbox Live.
