Microsoft acquires deep learning startup Lobe for undisclosed sum

Microsoft has acquired San Francisco, Calif.-based deep learning startup Lobe for an undisclosed sum.

Lobe is working to make deep learning simple, understandable and accessible to everyone, says Microsoft. The company’s visual interface lets people create apps that can understand hand gestures, hear music, or read handwriting, Microsoft said in a statement.

Lobe was founded in 2015 by Mike Matas, Adam Menges, and Markus Beissinger. “We plan to continue developing Lobe as a standalone service, supporting open source standards and multiple platforms,” the founders posted on their website.

Here is a blog post talking about the acquisition by Kevin Scott, executive vice president and CTO, Microsoft: https://blogs.microsoft.com/blog/2018/09/13/microsoft-acquires-lobe-to-help-bring-ai-development-capability-to-everyone/
