McDonald’s set to become largest foodservice retailer using Google Distributed Cloud

McDonald’s will become the largest global foodservice retailer to utilize Google Distributed Cloud capabilities, according to the fast food giant. It has inked a multi-year, global partnership with Google, aiming to integrate Google Cloud technology across its restaurants worldwide.

McDonald’s plans to leverage a range of Google Cloud’s hardware, data, and AI technologies as part of the collaboration. The focus is on connecting restaurants globally to data across their digital ecosystem, according to the company.

McDonald’s plans to use edge computing from Google Cloud for its mobile app and self-service kiosks platforms, enabling storage and computing at individual restaurants. McDonald’s restaurants will also start using Google Distributed Cloud, allowing the use of cloud-based software applications and local AI solutions.

As part of the collaboration, a dedicated Google Cloud team in Chicago is expected to work with McDonald’s innovation center, Speedee Labs, focusing on generative AI.

The rollout of hardware and software upgrades is scheduled to begin next year.
