MACOM awarded $4M AFRL contract for semiconductor technology

MACOM has secured a contract from the United States Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) for the development of advanced semiconductor process technology related to Gallium Nitride-on-Silicon Carbide (GaN-on-SiC). Valued at approximately $4.0 million, the contract will span multiple years, says MACOM.

The contract focuses on research and development of GaN-on-SiC semiconductor process technologies used in millimeter-wave Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) products.

Earlier, in January 2021, MACOM and AFRL had entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) to transfer AFRL’s production-ready 0.14-micron GaN-on-SiC semiconductor process to MACOM’s Massachusetts-based U.S. Trusted Foundry. The process transfer has been successfully completed, and the technology is now available for production.
