Yale is launching residential locks with near field communication (NFC) technology. The new deadbolts replace conventional keys with digital keys instead, which are accessed through an app for NFC-equipped Android mobile devices. The mobile app lets homeowners unlock doors, send keys to others, or revoke a digital key, as well.
The lock and app are powered by Seos technology, a multi-platform ecosystem for issuing, delivering and revoking digital keys across smart devices. Seos was developed by Yale parent company Assa Abloy, and is currently used commercially.
The deadbolts will be available in February for $224.99. The app comes with five free digital keys, with additiona keys for $1.99.
