Intel has released a family of In-Vehicle Solutions hardware and software. The portfolio includes a range of compute modules, an integrated software stack of operating system plus middleware, and development kits.

The chipmaker says it expects its standardized platform approach, based on integrated and validated hardware and software, to shorten infotainment development time by more than 12 months and reduce costs up to 50 percent. The first available products are designed for IVI systems with advanced driver assistance capabilities, with future products geared for advanced driving experiences, such as autonomous or self-driving cars, says Intel.

The portfolio includes a hardened, application-ready, Linux-based hardware platform and a pre-integrated set of automotive middleware, that comprises features such as two-second fast boot, power management, persistency, connectivity, graphics, and audio/video functions. The software offers system choices in hardware-only or as a complete, application-ready platform with an integrated software foundation.

Intel is working with its subsidiary Wind River,  as well as with Green Hills Software, Mobica, Symphony Teleca, QNX, and XSe, to offer solutions and services to automakers adopting Intel In-Vehicle Solutions.
