Intel broke ground on two new chip factories at the company’s Ocotillo campus in Chandler, Arizona, last week; as part of a $20 billion expansion.

When fully operational in 2024, the new fabs will manufacture Intel 20A, as well as provide committed capacity for the Intel Foundry Services (IFS).  Intel said the company is investing in domestic capacity to support worldwide demand for chips across multiple segments, from PCs to automobiles to data centers.

With the addition of the factories – to be named Fab 52 and Fab 62 – Intel’s Ocotillo campus will now house a total of six fabs.

Intel has invested over $50 billion in Arizona, since opening its site over 40 years ago, the company said in a statement.
