IBM has acquired Manta, a data lineage platform provider headquartered in Prague, Czech Republic. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
The Manta acquisition aims to bolster the data quality and transparency features in WatsonX.ai, WatsonX.data, and WatsonX.governance offerings, according to IBM.
IBM and Manta Software had been collaborating since June 2022 and have already integrated their capabilities into IBM’s existing AI and data governance frameworks. The clients for Manta’s services include companies T-Mobile, BMO, J.B. Hunt, and SCP Health.
According to IBM’s 2023 CEO study, concerns about data lineage have been identified as the primary barrier to broader adoption of generative AI technologies. Manta, founded in 2016, specializes in mapping data flows, sources, transformations, and dependencies, offering businesses greater visibility into their data environments. This enables companies to ascertain the origins, transformations, and discrepancies in their data, which is particularly crucial for AI-driven decision-making systems.
The Manta Software deal marks IBM’s eighth acquisition in 2023.
